First steps after getting your permit
A checklist for the first weeks after your first permit: registration, insurance, bank, taxes.
Getting your permit is not the finish line but the start of settling in. In the first weeks a few formalities matter so you can live and work with peace of mind. We support clients through this stage too.
Register your address
Register your residence at the administrative unit (Upravna enota) for your area. This is the base step that almost everything else depends on.
Social & health insurance
Register with the social funds and health insurance (ZZZS). For employees this is usually handled by the employer; the self-employed do it themselves or via an accountant.
Bank account & tax number
Open a local bank account and make sure you have a tax number (davčna številka). Both are needed for salary, rent, utilities and most contracts.
School, doctor, mobile
Enrol children in kindergarten or school, choose a personal doctor and paediatrician, and get a local SIM. These everyday steps make the move genuinely complete.
